We asked Deanna some questions about her career, and this is what she said!

Q1: How long have you been modeling, and how did you get started?

DS: I have been working as a professional model for about 8 years. My first dreams of modeling started when I was seventeen. I was taking my senior pictures, and I thought, “Wow, this is so much!!” Getting paid for such a thing wasn’t even on my radar at the time. Without a doubt, I knew I loved being in front of the camera.

Q2: What is the most difficult thing about being a model?

DS: In my opinion, the most difficult thing is “aging out” of a certain “type” or category. Early in my career, I was a swimwear model for Body Glove, and I did that for a long time. Although I am quite fit, I don’t look like a 23-year-old-surfer-chick anymore. That transition was hard for me, and I wasn’t ready to start wearing one pieces to do mommy-n-me catalogs.

Recently, I booked a great swimwear shoot at age 31 with BlissOn Swimwear. https://www.bliss-on.com/ My swimsuit modeling days are not over yet! Professional swimsuit modeling is one of the many fun things that I got to do, but it’s not the only thing I do. There are lots of things that make me beautiful and unique. I want to celebrate those things every day, regardless of what type of jobs I am booking at the time.

Q3: What is your favorite thing about being a model?

DS: I love making meaningfull connections with people. Not to mention, I also enjoy surprising people when they find out I also teach and perform improv comedy!

Q4: Has modeling taken you to any exotic locations or places you’ve only dreamed of going to?

DS: Yes! Modeling led to my TV Show Host audition for Fox Sports. This show allowed me to travel all over, including Key West, Florida (see clip below)! I also worked for an entertainment company as a Party Motivator. This job took me to one of the most breathtaking islands I’ve ever seen, Saint Kitts/Nevis.

Q5: What is your favorite project or event you have worked on?

DS: One project that stands out was my first principal role in a national commercial for Flipp. I thought I was going to shoot in a green screen studio. There was no way that I was going to stand in a tiny boat in the middle of an ocean, right? Boy, was I wrong. I found out day of the shoot that we were shooting everything on location, with a real boat in a real ocean. It was exhilarating! And BONUS: I got to work on my balance that week!
